JULIE & JULIA: Set sketches-page 1
I don't always get hired to do set illustration. It started out as an extra skill I could offer a job when I was hired to do graphics.
In the case of Julie & Julia I was hired to do graphics, but Mark Ricker, the production designer asked me to help him sell some set concepts to Nora Ephron by doing quick pencil sketches.
This was a restaurant in New York that he wanted to redress as a famous old restaurant in France in the 1940's.
We were shooting a scene where Julia Childs' sister is married in the Bois du Boulogne in Paris.
Again, Mark had a concept of how to convert Prospect Park in Brooklyn into Paris of the 1940's and asked me to sketch it.
