A SERIOUS MAN: Set sketches-page 1
The film takes place in suburban Minneapolis in the mid 1960's, where the homes are relatively new, and the land is flat... with a few newly planted trees at best. The area chosen to shoot in had the right architecture but also had the advantage of some 40 years of tree growth. The first job I had was to alter location photos of all the potential streets to show the scope of landscaping that needed to be done. Above is the shot of the Gopnik house (on left) and the annoying neighbor on the right.

This is the final rendering of the two houses, leaving a few rees, but making the front yards as bare and open as possible. Note that Jess and I have also begun to show specific window, door and other details that would be added to the houses to tie them to the 1960's as well.
