UNPRODUCED PROJECTS: Hennigan's House
Inside Hennigan's boat we spend most of the time in the great room, which serves several functions. It's the daycare center, living room, dining room and library. In this sketch the stair on the right leads up past the aquarium to the wheelhouse. Below that is the galley. On the left another stair leads up to Hattie the Mouse's room in the back turret. Below that are Mr. Hennigan's quarters.
This is the wheelhouse. All of the ships controls are centered here. The wheel is unlike any other ship's wheel. Hennigan sits on the stool and puts his feet on the pedals flanking the wheel. Then he drives like he's in a car. There is a gearshift, and two instrument pods which look like eyes. The wheel talks to Hennigan to help him navigate.
Hattie the Mouse is Mr. Hennigan's friend and navigator. She is a voracious reader and collector of old maps and treasures from all of their travels together. Her room is in the top turret at the back of the boat. She is very shy and only comes out to visit when she knows that Hennigan and the children are there.
