THE HISTORY CHANNEL: 10th Anniversary Promos - Page 1
The History Channel did a series of promotional spots for their 10th Anniversary, and Rick Butler was the designer. I had worked with Rick on Deadline, and he always tried to hire me to do concept sketches of projects he was designing.
The sketches on this page were for the promo that told the story of a young Louis Armstrong.
Young Louis is supposed to be doing his homework, but instead sneaks out of the apartment to kneel by the window of a basement Jazz club and listen to the music.
The top and middle sketches show two views of the apartment with Louis sneaking out while his mother washes the dishes.
The third sketch shows Louis outside the small window looking in at the nightclub, as the sound of the live band inside fills the air.
